The PhD research started at the end of 2019 and ran until mid-2023. The practice-research was orientated around four curatorial projects: an online curatorial residency, Floating Reverie; an online digital project space initiated in 2022; Blue Ocean, a mixed reality workshop; TMRW, a digital studio space; and Covalence, a digital studio space.

Through the research, several other outcomes emerged:

  • South African Digital Art Archive (2010 – ongoing) | a work in progress
  • Five interviews with South African curators and artists working in the space
  • The beginning of a networked curatorial dictionary
  • An overview of digital or technology-based contemporary art and practice
